You Create The Adventure

To launch the latest teen summer line at Old Navy, we turned ordinary online shopping into an engaging, interactive experience. A two-page consecutive print ad worked as a “Choose Your Own Adventure” story, leading readers to a dynamic microsite where an immersive game could be played. Stories of our three stylish heroines unfolded as viewers made fashion choices, covering an array of teen-driven themes. What’s next - Love? Passion? Parties? Choose your outfit wisely…

Magazine ad

When viewers arrived at the site, they chose a character to begin their adventure. Each story featured a different theme and fashion focus: Mystery (swimwear), Romance (skirts) and Action (shorts).

Custom illustrations were created by award-winning French artist, Marguerite Sauvage, known for her stylish, whimsical and edgy imagery. Sauvage's work has been published in numerous fashion editorials and advertising campaigns, as well as comic books.

Every scene included an opportunity to learn more or purchase the featured items. At the end, the viewer could review a recap of outfits and begin shopping based on story theme or fashion focus.

Results

When the print ad ran in Teen Vogue, Old Navy witnessed a dramatic increase in online activity and sales. Viewers stayed on the site longer, often opting to play the game again or share with others, increasing exposure and shopping opportunities to both new and existing customers. Under the Gap Inc. parent company, the Old Navy division has consistently been the most successful with e-commerce representing almost a quarter of its annual profits. Old Navy is the company’s largest brand, accounting for nearly 50% of the company’s overall revenues. Since 2015, the brand has added more than $1 billion to total revenues at an average annual rate of 5.5% and is expected to continue steady growth.
