Stories That Connect Us

VPM, Virginia’s home for public media, came to us looking for a creative partner to develop the brand for a new primetime news show hosted by veteran TV anchor, Angie Miles. The show aims to position Virginia as a nexus of national issues such as the fight for racial justice, economic growth juxtaposed with entrenched poverty, polarizing politics, climate change and rapidly evolving demographics. VPM News Focal Point emphasizes where these issues intersect, and provides perspective on what impact they have and how Virginia communities are handling them.

After an extensive ideation process, the name VPM News Focal Point was chosen. From there, we developed a logo and visual identity, along with story and messaging, to shape a distinct brand that builds upon VPM’s reputation as a trusted news source.

Results

The VPM News Focal Point brand launch campaign won top integrated media campaign from NETA, the National Educational Telecommunications Association in the Public Media Awards competition. The show is VPM’s most streamed local program on PBS reaching over 150,000 people with popular episode ratings comparable to PBS NewsHour viewership. The VPM News team also received multiple first place awards for excellence in reporting at the Virginia AP Broadcasters Awards. Additionally, the show was nominated for five regional Emmy awards.
